Challenges of the customer

In a dynamic assembly environment, precise resource and schedule planning is crucial for success. Although the assembly-board was in use before the start of the project, it was only integrated into the ERP system to a limited extent. This led to time delays, additional coordination work and a lack of transparency regarding current resource availability.

Updating schedules and assignments was manual, error-prone and required a high level of technical expertise – especially when making adjustments to the SQL database. At the same time, there was a lack of reliable process metrics for controlling and evaluating planning quality. The aim was to make the assembly board fit for the future: integrated, automated and user-friendly.

Our approach

The existing assembly board was technically and functionally enhanced to sustainably optimize resource and schedule planning. Proven methods were used in combination with agile approaches – in close coordination with the respective specialist departments and with a clear focus on integration, usability and efficiency.

Requirements analysis & planning

The first step was to analyze the existing processes and systems. Requirements regarding data availability, integration and functionality were determined in collaboration with the specialist departments. These served as the basis for drawing up the roadmap for the further development of the assembly board.

System development & technical infrastructure

VBA codes were used to automate the processes, while the underlying SQL database was adapted and expanded. A technical connection to the ERP system was implemented - including automated write-backs in the event of changes.

QA, testing & user training

A test phase was carried out in close consultation with key users and the solution was finalized. This was supplemented by targeted application training to ensure effective use of the extended functions of the assembly board.

Rollout & agile further development

Following the successful rollout, user feedback was recorded and prioritized. Since then, the assembly board has been iteratively developed further - with a focus on data management, user guidance, performance and security.
